Explore Live Storytelling Together (Adult workshop)

Wednesday, September 137:00—8:30 PMLarge Meeting RoomCary Memorial Library1874 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA, 02420

People tell stories every day to educate, entertain, and connect with others. At its best, live storytelling reveals our shared humanity and gives residents a greater sense of community.

In this fun, interactive workshop, learn the essential elements for telling a great story, whether to a friend in a cafe or on stage for an audience. Expand your personal story library while meeting new neighbors.

The workshop will be led by Cheryl Hamilton, Director of Stellar Story Company, which helps people and institutions develop extraordinary stories and unforgettable events that lead to meaningful change. Hamilton is also the director of curation and coaching for the national media program Stories from the Stage, filmed at GBH, and the creator of Suitcase Stories, the inspiring series featuring stories of refugee and immigrant life.

Voices on the Green is a series of live storytelling and music events founded in 2017 as a community-building endeavor, whose primary goals are to develop new voices and new relationships in the community, and to create a sense of heartfelt connection between the performers and audience. Three times a year, storytellers and musicians from First Parish and the surrounding community come together to share their diverse perspectives on a common theme.

For each event, the Voices team selects, mentors and supports a new group of performers and works to ensure that there is a large audience and a production of high quality that will reward both audience and performers. To extend the community-building beyond what happens during the show, Voices on the Green partners with and shares the proceeds of the evening with an exemplary community organization whose mission and activities are expressions of the theme for the show. Recordings of past shows can be seen at Voices on the Green, and on YouTube. For more information: voicesonthegreen@fplex.org

Registration is required. Space is limited to 40 adult participants. Please register one person per email to ensure an accurate headcount.

This event is co-sponsored by CAAL (Chinese American Association of Lexington) and Voices on the Green. CAAL hopes that this workshop will help to build bridges through shared humanity.  Through storytelling, we can create meaningful connections across lines of differences and build a stronger community.

The program is made possible by the generous donors to the Cary Library Foundation.
