Exploring Our Stories (ages 2 - 12)

Saturday, October 12:00—4:00 PMLarge Meeting RoomCary Memorial Library1874 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA, 02420

Join us for an afternoon at Cary as we explore identity and belonging through children’s literature. This event, directed towards ages 2-12, will run from 2pm-4pm with read-alouds, discussions, art activities, and more, all of which will center around the importance and relevance of diversity in the books we read.

Starting at 2, families are invited to come in and try out activities and crafts stationed around the room. We will begin read-alouds at 2:30, while the activity tables will remain open throughout the event. Our read-aloud schedule can be found below:

2:30-2:45: Julían is a Mermaid by Jessica Love
2:45-3:00: A Sky Blue Bench by Bahram Rahman
3:00-3:15: The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad and S.K. Ali

At 3:15, we will be hosting an open conversation for kids ages 10-12 about representation in books, and we will have a discussion about personal experiences with seeing ourselves or others represented in books.

This program is presented by DiverisfyLexLit as a part of our Cary Teens Lead the Way program, a program designed to highlight the interests and talents of Lexington's teens.
