Looking after someone needing intensive care can be fulfilling, it can be stressful, and it can be emotionally challenging. How can folks in a caring role best manage complicated emotions for their own wellness and for healthy relationships? Join us with Evan Plys, PhD, will discuss this and more during “Taking Care, While Caretaking”. This presentation will cover: 1) The importance of dealing with emotional stress as a care partner, 2) Practical, everyday strategies to managing emotional stressors related to the caregiving role, and 3) Opportunities to participate in programs designed to minimize emotional stress for formal and informal caregivers.

About the Presenter: Dr. Evan Plys, PhD, ABPP is a licensed clinical psychologist board-certified in geropsychology. He currently is an Assistant Professor at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Center for Health Outcomes and Interdisciplinary Research and within the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His funded program of research investigates psychological intervention approaches for post-acute/subacute residents as well as their family care partners during a skilled nursing stay. He frequently contributes to research targeting care partners of persons living with dementia and has published extensively on this topic. He is also the Co-Director of the MGB Caregiver Clinic, which provides psychotherapy services for caregivers of persons with dementia and other neurodegenerative illnesses.
