Virtual - Introduction to Ornithology with Bill Gette: Wonder of Bird Migration

Thursday, September 87:00—8:00 PMVirtual

Bird migration is one of the greatest wonders in the natural world. Many species undergo extraordinarily long and arduous journeys, and often the birds are only a few months old. Did you know that some birds migrate over 7,000 miles non-stop? Did you know that the migration strategies of birds depend on their species, subspecies, age, and gender? During his presentation, Bill Gette will explain why birds migrate, the various types of migration, the benefits and risks, and various migration strategies. He will also explain how birds are able to achieve these amazing feats. He will review behavioral and physical adaptations, the use of environmental factors, the benefits of flocking behavior, and bird navigation.
