VIRTUAL - LexSeeHer Speaker Series: Remembering The #LexingtonLadies: 1769 Spinning Tableau
Wednesday, August 3112:00—1:00 PMVirtual
Sarah McDonough from Lexington Historical Society and Jessie Steigerwald from LexSeeHer will join in conversation to discuss the “Lexington Ladies” who made history/herstory in the summer of 1769. Anna Harrington hosted 45 ladies in a demonstration at her home - just across from the Town Commons (now known as the Battle Green). This was years before the Battle, but Lexingtonians were already frustrated by taxes on imported textiles. Women took their grandmothers’ spinning wheels outside as a sign of economic agency and political defiance. Join us to learn more about Lexington’s bold women across time! And save the date for Saturday August 27, 1:00-3:00 p.m. for the second annual Spinning Tableau - an artistic installation that pays tribute to the 45 women.
This program is made possible by the generous donors to the Cary Library Foundation.
In partnership with LexSeeHer and the Lexington Historical Society.
