VIRTUAL - Alaska’s Remote Places: Nome and Utqiagvik with Bill Gette

Thursday, November 107:00—8:00 PMVirtual

In June 2022, Bill Gette led his eighth travel adventure to Alaska. Highlights of this trip were visits to the Steward Peninsula village of Nome and the remote Arctic Ocean settlement of Utqiagvik (Barrow), located over 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle. During his presentation, Bill will take you along Nome’s three dirt roads that lead for 70 miles through beautiful subarctic tundra and then abruptly end. Bill will show you Muskox, the nest of Gyrfalcons, nesting shorebirds, and beautiful wildflowers.  At Utqiagvik, Bill will show you many species of birds that nest along the northern fringe of the North American continent, including Pomarine Jaeger, Red Phalarope, King Eider, Snow Bunting, and Lapland Longspur. Bill will also show you scenes from the Inupiat People’s celebration of the Summer Solstice.
