VIRTUAL: Exploring Costa Rica’s Central Highlands with Bill Gette (pt 2)

Monday, January 227:00—8:00 PMVirtual

This is part 2 of a two part series. Each part is not required to view the other.

In November 2023, Bill Gette traveled to the Central American country of Costa Rica to explore the Central Highlands that reach elevations over 11,000 feet. He started his adventure at Las Cruces Biological Station and Wilson Gardens located at 3,000 feet above sea level within a few miles of the Panama border. Brightly colored tanagers were a highlight at Las Cruces, including Silver-throated, Golden-hooded, Blue-gray, Summer, Speckled, Palm, and Green Honeycreeper. Traveling northwest from Las Cruces, Bill stopped at 10,000 feet above sea level to explore Talamanca
páramo, a region of high elevation montane grasslands and scrubs. Here, he photographed wildflowers and Volcano Junco and Volcano Hummingbird. At Savegre Hotel and Private Reserve, he found many more bird species, including Sooty-capped Bush-tanager, Slaty Flowerpiercer, White-throated Mountain-gem, Torrent Tyrannulet, and Resplendent Quetzal.
