VIRTUAL: Exploring Costa Rica’s Pacific Lowlands with Bill Gette (pt 1)

Tuesday, January 167:00—8:00 PMVirtual

This is part 1 of a two part program. Each part is not required to view the other.

In November 2023, Bill Gette traveled to the Central American country of Costa Rica to explore the Pacific lowlands and photograph the incredible variety of birds that thrive there, as well as topical wildflowers, butterflies, and mammals. During this adventure, he took a cruise on the Tárcoles River where he photographed Boat-billed Heron, Common Black-hawk, Black-necked Stilt, Roseate Spoonbill, and American Crocodile. At Macaw Lodge located at 1,000 feet above sea level, Bill photographed wildflowers, including magnificent heliconias, Hot Lips, and ginger. Highlight birds at Macaw Lodge including Bare-throated Tiger-heron, the endangered Scarlet Macaw, Gray-cowled Wood-rail, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Gray-headed Chachalaca, and Snail Kite. At Esquinas Lodge located on the coastal plain in southern Costa Rica, he encountered a family of Great Curassow, Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Yellow-throated Toucan, Spectacled Caiman, and the raccoon-like Coati. Join us for a virtual journey with an abundance of photos of these majestic animals.
