VIRTUAL - Machias Seal Island and Eastern Maine with Bill Gette

Thursday, June 17:00—8:00 PMVirtual

Bill Gette, Founding Director of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport, has taken participants to Machias Seal Island and eastern Maine for over 25 years. Machias Seal Island, located 10 miles off the Maine coast, is claimed and administered by the Canadian Government. This barren island is the most important seabird nesting colony along the Maine coast. Here, clown-like Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, and Arctic Terns nest in the hundreds. During his PowerPoint presentation, Bill will show you his photos of Machias Seal Island and the many interesting places he and his groups have explored in eastern Maine, including the DeBlois Blueberry Barrens, Quoddy Head State Park, and the Maine Coast Heritage Trust trail at Bald Head. Bill will show his photographs of the many species of birds and mammals he has encountered, beautiful wildflowers, and a magnificent quaking bog–a gift of the glaciers.
