After a long New England winter, the appearance of the first wildflowers testifies to the coming warmer weather. For several years, Bill Gette has been photo-documenting the wildflowers he has observed in New England. He’ll show you many amazing plants including the thermogenic Skunk Cabbage – a plant that produces its own heat to break through the frozen ground. Bill will take you to woodlands to seek Red Trillium, Wood Anemone, Bloodroot, American Trout-lily, and Pink Lady’s Slipper. In fields and disturbed areas, he’ll show you many beautiful non-native species that are often distained but have historically been treasured for their medicinal and culinary properties.

Bill will introduce this presentation by reviewing the features of wildflowers that are essential for identification (e.g., petals, sepals, petioles, arrangement of leaves).
